Dr. Aaron Lane is an Australian Lawyer and an expert in the relationship between regulation and innovation. He has internationally recognised expertise on the law, economics and regulation of blockchain and cryptocurrency. In previous academic roles, Aaron lectured and coordinated programs and courses including Company Law, Competition & Consumer Law, Business Tax Law, and Law & Technology.
Dr. Lane has appeared to give expert evidence before State and Federal parliamentary inquiries (including on blockchain, cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence) and has contributed to an Amicus Brief filed in the Supreme Court of the United States (on competition law and financial payments).
Dr. Lane was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria and began his legal career in private practice acting and appearing for clients in administrative, commercial and criminal matters. In addition to his academic roles, he practiced as a solicitor in fraud, misconduct and financial crime. In 2023, he was called to the Victorian Bar and practices exclusively as a barrister (independent counsel).
